Three days after Halloween and everyone is asking where the pictures of my Halloween display are at. I have some but I have yet to see how they turned out. I hope they turned out better than the Howl-o-Scream footage this year. Between the decorations coming down and getting Howl-O-Scream images and info up, I have not yet had the time or hard drive space to get the Halloween display posted or videos edited. But they are going up a little at a time. I didn’t grammar or spell check this blog entry so I hope it makes sence..LOL. I had to make some modifications to the final vortex display to get the look I wanted. I was able to pull off a vortex over 6 feet deep by 6 feet wide by 4 foot tall. Three people ask me where I got it, had to tell them I made it and this is something you can buy. Most kids that would speak said it was the coolest house they have been to and were amazed by the vortex, even more than years past after my upgrades. The image below dose not show the vortex running, sorry. The theme was deep space, stellar objects hanging from the ceiling such as the moon, stars and a galaxy glowed in the bright with the two four foot florescent backlights that also lit the glow webbing used on the inner walls from ground up to about 2 or 3 feet so you can find your path. Flickering led lamps made from old outdoor accent lanterns were the only other light source other than the backlights and the vortex in the front porch. As long as you use the backlight sensitive props properly and in the right areas, no other light is needed for a safely lit pathway. The ceiling also sported 2 Optimus PRO LX5 bookshelf speakers powered by an old 150 watt stereo amp. They are old speakers but have a special omni-directional tweeter that will best any Bose system for the area I’m working with. Sound affects were from Lustmord, great for the Deep Space theme. All sound was fed to the amp from an old 700 MHz PC by Winamp 5. This networked PC was remotely controlled for sound adjustments to be made form any computer on my network. It was also intended to capture and feed video back to my media center for recording and to see any trick-or-treator coming toward the house but I did not have time to complete this part of the setup so I could tweak the vortex. IF the display was up for more than one night I would have more time for these little things but the other permanent cameras worked well enough for this year. Better use of the IR camera will go into next years prep. Outside the porch, two 12 inch glowing sky orbs flew about 20 feet overhead, one blue glow stick powered and one red LED powered. A small 4 inch florescent backlight light the small sign marking the sidewalk to the house. Walking on the sidewalk you came to be bushes filled with mist created by a 10 disk commercial mister and defused further by a 12 volt PC cooling fan. Backlighting the bushes and mist were one set of orange and one set of purple string lights, same type you put on Christmas tress bur Halloween colored bulbs. Also on the front corner of the house was a hanging skull covered in a glowing shroud spanning out from the base of his head, the glow was produced bay a 2 foot florescent light placed under him. I plan to get the images up by the weekend and get more detail of what was done and how but bits and pieces will be going on the site until thanksgiving, there is a lot to go through. Any people getting the newsletter will get mail as updates are added but if you drop by the site from time to time, there will be an update at least a couple of times a month. Next entry I might show you what I got for next year from the after Halloween clearance! | |||||||
