For years I have heard Midnight syndicate used at Halloween
Horror Nights in Orlando ,
and for good reason. They have some of the best ambient music for haunting I
have heard and have gotten to be big this time of year. In February of 2006,
they announced that the Born of the Night and Realm of Shadows CDs
had been discontinued due to an agreement with a third party and that party
recently terminated the agreement. If you noticed the newsflash posted on
9/28/2006 at Haunted.Hyperreactor.com, you could see these disks were fetching
a high price on eBay going for
around $45 in late September. They are just that popular. As of this writing,
you can still grab Realm of Shadows at for less than $25 used or just under $40 new, but only one left of
each currently.
half.com .
So what other choices do we have to fill our haunt with
great affects? This year I plan to use mostly “Lustmord”. I feel that stepping
away from Midnight Syndicate will make my little home haunt stand out a bit
more as Midnight Syndicate is becoming too mainstream for me. I would rather
use something most would find haunting but would not recognize as the same
thing everyone lese is using. If your looking to use something similar, I might
recommend Lustmord’s Metavoid, Purifying Fire, or Zoetrope album. I have not
decided what one ill be using this year and have yet to make the purchase but
all three are great and I know at lest “Purifying Fire” can be found new on Half.com for under $16. Just do a
search on “Purifying Fire” at Half.com
and you can’t miss it. You will find this to be more of an ambient industrial
sound but great for haunting.
There are several others out there but few meet up to what
I’m looking for. At this time on the front page of Haunted.HyperReactor.com you
will find tracks from Pumpkinland
(haunting ambient), Dark Ride and Fleshrot.
You
almost have to buy these online unless you find them in a specialty shop. FightCatalog.com has several different
choices and some good prices in their “Halloween Music” section plus the
opportunity to listen to clips of the album. Napster Also has a good selection worth searching through. I have
found CD’s in stores but have been disappointed most every time.
Ambient sounds are important to completing your
haunt. The best pro haunts use them all over. They make a good haunt great by
filling every sense to their advantage it can do the same for your haunt as
well. So take the time to find one that right for your Haunting.
